What is the ruling on a lawyer falsifying documents or bringing in perjurers to acquit their accused clients, under the pretext that the judgments are man-made and not Sharia-compliant?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to defend criminals or to argue on their behalf so that they may escape what they deserve of rights or punishment regulated by the Sharia, due to the generality of Allah's saying: "And do not be an advocate for the traitors." The sin becomes greater if the defense involves forging documents or bringing false witnesses, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever cheats is not from me," and concerning false witness, he said: "Beware, and false speech," repeating it. This applies whether the state implements Sharia laws or man-made laws.
