The answer

This transaction is impermissible because it is a circumvention to borrow with interest, and the involvement of the wife and the car is a stratagem to make the forbidden permissible. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Whenever the intention of the transactor is dirhams for dirhams until a future date, then 'deeds are by intentions, and every person will have what he intended.'" Thus, this transaction is usury (riba). Allah the Almighty has warned against usury and forbidden it. Allah the Almighty says: (Those who consume interest will not stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity.) [Al-Baqarah:275]. In Muslim, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah has cursed the one who consumes riba, the one who feeds it, its two scribes, and its two witnesses; they are all equal." Circumventing riba does not make the forbidden permissible; rather, it increases the forbidden in impermissibility. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. If it is possible to reverse the transaction by the man returning the amount he received as the price for the car, and he is excused from the difference, then that is obligatory, according to His saying, the Almighty: (And if you repent, you may have your principal - [thus] you do no wrong, nor are you wronged.) [Al-Baqarah:279]. If reversing it is not possible, then only repentance is incumbent upon him.
