Is it permissible to eat a sea pig?

The porpoise is pure and permissible (halal), and does not require ritual slaughter (dhakāt) because it is a marine animal. Some scholars disliked it due to its shared name with the forbidden terrestrial pig, but the preponderant opinion is its permissibility, based on the general texts of revelation, such as the Almighty's saying: "Lawful to you is game from the sea and its food as provision for you and for those who travel," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying regarding the sea: "Its water is pure, and its dead are lawful." The forbidden pig is the terrestrial one.
