How are profits divided between the maker of handmade products and their marketer in another country?
Working in marketing a colleague's products for a known percentage of the profit is permissible according to some scholars. This is a strong opinion favored by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, who holds that such partnerships, which depend on what is earned from the work, may have a common share as compensation, even if the compensation is unknown at the time of the contract, as is the case in ju'alah (commission/stipulated reward).
Based on this opinion, whatever the two parties agree upon regarding the division of profit is permissible, whether equally or with one party receiving more, and it is not a condition that the product owner receives a larger percentage of the profit. The determining factor is what the two partners agree upon, as the profit will be distributed according to their mutual understanding.
