Is it considered extravagance to furnish the company with very luxurious offices and to purchase expensive clothes and accessories for employees (or to pay them allowances for that), knowing that the nature of the work requires it, and the primary purpose of the company is to dedicate itself to seeking knowledge?

Firstly: It is permissible for companies to furnish their offices and care for their appearance, provided there is no extravagance involved, such as exceeding their financial capacity, or going beyond what is needed, or if it is intended to deceive customers. Statues and pictures of living beings, as well as hanging verses from the Holy Quran, must be avoided.

Secondly: It is permissible for employees to wear elegant and distinctive clothes, shoes, and watches, provided there are no Shariah violations: such as contradicting the conditions of Islamic dress, or if the watches are made of gold, and provided their prices do not exceed reasonable limits, based on the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: “Indeed, Allah is beautiful and loves beauty,” and his saying: “Eat, drink, dress, and give charity, without extravagance or pride.”
