Why do Sunnis and Shias differ regarding the inheritance of the sole female heir?

There is no disagreement between the Sunnis and the Shiites that a single daughter inherits half. Indeed, the Imamiyyah agree with the Sunnis on this, and the Quranic text in Surat An-Nisa' confirms that "And if there be one daughter, she shall have half the inheritance."
