What is the ruling on inheritance: A mother died leaving a daughter and a son who are not full siblings?

If a woman dies leaving behind only a son and a daughter, the inheritance is divided between them with the male receiving the share of two females, based on the Almighty's saying: "Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females." We stress that matters of inheritance are serious and complex, and should be referred to the Sharia courts to verify the existence of other heirs, or wills, or debts, or rights that take precedence over the rights of the heirs.
