What is the ruling on a wife remaining in her family's home and refusing to return to her husband, who has begun treatment for his excessive anger, especially after she accused him of speaking with other girls, even though she previously accepted his apology and repentance?

If a wife converses with a man who is a stranger to her, she is committing an evil act and neglecting her husband's rights. This is a betrayal of the trust that Allah Almighty has obligated upon her in His saying: "So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard."

Anger at the violation of Allah's sacred limits is commendable, but the problem lies in excessive emotional reaction, which can lead to undesirable transgressions. There are Islamic regulations that must be observed regarding striking one's wife.

It is not permissible for a wife to refuse to return to her home, nor is it permissible for her family to prevent her from doing so except with a valid legal excuse. If her parents insist on preventing her, some wise people should be sent to them to persuade them, otherwise the matter should be referred to the Sharia (definition) court.

Divulging marital secrets is forbidden in Islam, and similarly, entertaining ill suspicions about one's spouse without evidence is also forbidden, as Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin."
