The answer

We deal with the outward manifestations of affairs. So, whoever openly displays disbelief and dies upon it is treated as a disbeliever: he is buried with them, no funeral prayer is offered for him, no mercy is invoked for him, his Muslim relatives do not inherit from him, and all the rulings pertaining to disbelievers are applied to him.
