Is divination or fortune-telling considered an act that takes one out of the fold of Islam?

A "Kahin" (soothsayer) is one who claims knowledge of the unseen and deals in information about the future, while an "arraf" (diviner) deals with knowing about stolen items and the whereabouts of lost things. The preponderant view is that soothsaying, divination, and claiming knowledge of the unseen expel their perpetrator from the fold of Islam, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever comes to a soothsayer or diviner and believes what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad." Claiming soothsaying and divination contradicts God's sole proprietorship of the knowledge of the unseen, and this is an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith.
