What is the ruling on reading coffee cups, predicting the future, horoscopes, and fortune-telling, and going to those who practice these things, knowing that some of their predictions may come true with accuracy, and how can that be explained?

We have previously issued fatwas stating that fortune-telling and claiming knowledge of the unseen may lead one out of the fold of Islam. The soothsayers’ reports of future events are conveyed by jinn and devils, who snatch information from what they overhear, and then intersperse a hundred lies with every single truth. This matter is a trial and a test, not an indication of their veracity. Indeed, the Great Deceiver (Dajjal) will perform extraordinary feats, yet he is a cursed deceiver. Some individuals have a Qarin (companion) from among the devils who informs them of many unseen matters, mixing truth with falsehood. Therefore, one should not become attached to their words. Whoever relies on their statements will be entrusted by Allah to them. It is impermissible to go to them or to believe them, and severe warnings have been issued in this regard.
