Since the questioner admits that he owes several months' rent to the landlord, it is obligatory for him to pay it if he is able; because it is an established debt, and procrastination in paying it is an injustice, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Procrastination by a rich person is an injustice." As for the landlord's refusal to rent his house except for a new, doubled rent, this is his right after the expiration of the previous rental period, and this does not justify procrastination in paying the old rent.
