How sound is the narration: "The first thing Allah Almighty created, when His Throne was upon water, was the Bearers of the Throne. They asked: 'Our Lord, why did You create us?' He said: 'I created you to carry My Throne.' They said: 'Our Lord, who can endure carrying Your Throne, upon which is Your Greatness, Your Majesty, and Your Dignity?' He said: 'For that purpose, I created you.' They repeated this to Him repeatedly. So, He said to them: 'Say: There is no might nor power except with Allah.' Then they carried it"?

This tradition was mentioned by some scholars without an elevated chain of transmission (isnad marfu') back to the Prophet, peace be upon him. It was mentioned by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim in their books "Ijtima' al-Juyush al-Islamiyyah" and "al-Wabil al-Sayyib." Imam al-Darimi narrated it with his chain of transmission from Mu'awiyah ibn Saleh, who stated that the first beings Allah created, when His Throne was upon the water, were the bearers of the Throne. When they asked their Lord why He created them, He replied that He created them to bear His Throne. When they considered the task immense, He told them: "Say: 'There is no might nor power except with Allah (la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah).'" This tradition isوقف (mawquf) to Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Saleh and was not narrated with an مسند (musnad) chain back to the Prophet, peace be upon him.
