What is the ruling on someone who asks people in Ramadan, "How many times have you recited the entire Qur'an, and how many (extra) prayers have you offered?"

Asking people about the number of their prayers or recitations (of the Quran) in Ramadan (definition) is reprehensible (makrooh), and falls under speaking about what does not concern one, based on the hadith (definition): "Part of the perfection of one's Islam is his leaving alone that which does not concern him."

Moreover, the questioner might expose the one being asked to hypocrisy if he answers truthfully, or to lying if he does not answer, or to missing out on the worship performed in secret, which is superior to worship performed openly, or to feeling belittled.
