Is it permissible, in Sharia, to divorce a righteous wife who frequently backbites and whose backbiting is difficult to avoid hearing, especially when there are children between the spouses?

Lenience regarding backbiting is reprehensible. If the wife frequently engages in forbidden backbiting, the husband is obliged to prohibit her and explain the gravity of backbiting to her. If she does not cease, he is not blameworthy for divorcing her, because divorce is permissible when there is a need for it due to a woman's bad character and ill-treatment. However, one should not resort to divorce except after all means of reform have become impossible, especially when children are present. If it is possible for the spouses to live together and associate in a good manner, while overlooking some shortcomings, that would be preferable to separation.
