Is the repentance of a person who attempts suicide accepted if they repent after ingesting poison and before their death?

The repentance of someone who is on the verge of death and has despaired of life is not accepted. If a sinner delays repentance until the end of their life, but remains hopeful of life and then becomes certain of death, their repentance is accepted according to the majority of jurists. However, if they have lost hope in life and are in a state of despair, there is a difference of opinion. The Maliki school, some Hanafis, one view among the Hanbalis, and one opinion among the Shafi'is hold that the repentance of a despairing person who witnesses the signs of death is not accepted, based on the Almighty's saying: "But repentance is not for those who continue to do evil deeds until, when death approaches one of them, he says, 'Indeed, I have repented now'" (An-Nisa:18), and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah accepts repentance as long as the soul has not reached the throat." And whoever consumes poison and becomes certain of death, their repentance is not accepted if they repent in this state. As for the suicide victim, they are not a disbeliever; rather, they die as a monotheist, and the rulings applicable to Muslims apply to them.
