Is it permissible to give from the Zakat al-Mal (charity tax) that the questioner is entrusted with distributing, to a son who is about to get married and has no fixed income?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

A father is obliged to marry off his son if the son is in need and unable to bear the costs of marriage, provided the father is capable. Otherwise, it is permissible to give zakat to someone who wishes to marry if they are poor. It is also permissible for an agent managing zakat funds to give it to his needy relatives, including his poor son, on condition that the father is not able to marry him off from his own money, and that he does not show favoritism by giving him more than he gives other needy individuals.
