Is it permissible to communicate with men via the Internet, provided that the conversation adheres to the bounds of proper conduct?

Following the footsteps of Satan and anything that leads to the unlawful (haram) is forbidden. This is known as the "principle of blocking the means (sadd al-dharā'iʿ)." Conversation between a man and a woman is permissible in principle, but it can be a path to falling into the unlawful. Whoever fears weakness in themselves must refrain from it. As for one who believes they possess steadfastness, it is permissible for them under conditions:

1. Not to excessively converse outside the topic of the matter at hand or the call to Islam. 2. Not to soften the voice or make expressions pliable. 3. Not to ask about personal matters unrelated to the discussion. 4. The participation of brothers or sisters in writing or reviewing the communications. 5. Directly ceasing communication if the heart begins to incline towards lust.
