Is it permissible to interpret the Hadith "I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate" to mean that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, intended the establishment of an Islamic civilization founded on knowledge, and that all knowledge gathered in this city, taking into consideration the questioner's responses to Sheikh Uthman Al-Khamis and his understanding that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, named Yathrib "Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah" (the Illuminated City) because it is the city of knowledge?

The Hadith: "I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate" is a weak and fabricated Hadith by the unanimous agreement of scholars, such as Ibn al-Jawzi, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Al-Dhahabi. It is not permissible to use it as evidence or to interpret it. Furthermore, delving into the meaning of authentic Hadiths without knowledge is forbidden, as the Sunnah is a second revelation, just like the Quran, and interpreting it based on personal opinion without legitimate religious knowledge is akin to speaking about Allah without knowledge. Whoever speaks about religion without knowledge is sinful and a liar, even if they happen to be correct, as stated in various Hadiths that warn against giving fatwas or judging ignorantly, and explain that Allah will withdraw knowledge by taking away the scholars, whereupon people will appoint ignorant leaders who give fatwas without knowledge, thus going astray and leading others astray.
