Is the thought that comes to a Muslim about a Qur’anic verse – such as connecting the verse from Al ‘Imran (And He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel) with the descent of Jesus and his teaching of the Qur’an and the Sunnah – considered blameworthy interpretation of the Qur’an based on personal opinion?

Wisdom in the Quran has multiple meanings: admonition, Sunnah (definition), understanding, prophethood, and the Quran itself. It is not limited to the Sunnah only. Ibn al-Qayyim interpreted it as knowing the truth, acting upon it, and being correct in speech and action, which can only be achieved by understanding the Quran and gaining jurisprudence in Islamic law. Al-Tabari chose that any Sunnah revealed by God to a prophet outside of a scripture is called wisdom, and it is the truth that encompasses beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds. Specifying the wisdom mentioned for Jesus, peace be upon him, as referring to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, based on his descent at the end of time, contradicts the context and the apparent meaning of the verse, and has not been reported from the Salaf.
