The question

Is there evidence that the interpretation of "wisdom" by previous scholars as the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is correct, and how did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) interpret wisdom?

The answer

We are pleased with the Muslims' interest in the meanings of the Quran. The questioner should have a good opinion of scholars when something in the meanings of the Quran or otherwise becomes problematic, because they are not infallible and may be mistaken unintentionally, or the reader may have misunderstood them. The word "wisdom" (الحكمة) in the Holy Quran means the of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, in many verses, such as His saying, the Exalted: (And Allah has revealed to you the Book and Wisdom) [An-Nisa: 113]. The Prophet, peace be upon him, confirmed this meaning by saying: (I have been given the Book and something similar to it with it). So the Sunnah is a revelation from Allah, and it is wisdom. The pronoun in (He admonishes you with it) refers to "what has been sent down to you." "Wisdom" (الحكمة) and "Sunnah" (السنة) are synonymous, and the choice of "wisdom" is a praise for the Sunnah. "Wisdom" has multiple meanings determined by the context, so it does not have a single meaning in all verses. It may mean prophethood, knowledge, intellect, or piety. Thus, "wisdom" in the Holy Quran has been mentioned in the sense of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, in some verses, and with other meanings in other verses.
