To what extent is the story true of the man who saw the Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a dream wiping the face of his deceased father, whereupon its blackness turned to whiteness due to his abundant prayers upon the Prophet, and what is the ruling on spreading such a story that is surrounded by some contradiction and doubt?

That the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) intercession is attained by those who frequently invoke blessings upon him is not surprising. It has been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Whoever invokes blessings upon me ten times in the morning and ten times in the evening will receive my intercession on the Day of Resurrection." Its chain of narration is good.

As for the stories that speak of his intercession for those who frequently invoke blessings upon him, one should not pay attention to what has not been authentically established from them. It is sufficient to encourage what has been mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah (definition), for therein lies all sufficiency.
