The basic principle is that it is not permissible for a woman to leave her husband's house except with his permission. Her leaving without his permission is considered an act of disobedience and insubordination (nushooz), which forfeits her right to maintenance and housing. No one is permitted to help her in this regard. An exception to this is if the husband is oppressing her, or beating her severely, or if she needs to go out to the judge to claim her right, or to obtain maintenance if the husband is not providing for her.
