Is it permissible for me to remove my hijab so that I can pursue my university studies?
If the intent of removing the is only to uncover the face and hands, then there is latitude in the matter due to the existence of differing opinions. However, one must avoid (private seclusion) with a non- man and refrain from applying cosmetics. A balance must be struck between the benefit of studying and removing the hijab. If the benefit of studying outweighs the other, then it is permissible to uncover the face; otherwise, the hijab takes precedence. However, if removing the hijab means uncovering the hair, then this is not permissible. If there is no other way to continue studying except by abandoning the hijab, then abandoning the studies becomes obligatory.
