Is it possible to find a way to continue the marital life and accept the second wife, despite the first wife's feeling of financial and emotional exploitation by her husband, his disregard for her feelings and responsibilities towards their children, and his preference for the second wife in treatment and attention?

The problem of a second wife can be overcome by accepting the situation and having faith in divine decree and destiny (al-qada' wa al-qadar), being content with what Allah has apportioned, and being patient with any difficulties you may face, for Allah loves the patient.

Do not wrong your husband by forgetting his good qualities. He does not prefer the second wife over you, and he acts justly between you both. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another."

Beware of not thanking Allah for His blessings, of disobeying Allah by displaying adornment (tabarruj) and not adhering to the legal hijab, and of disobeying your husband, for obeying him in what is good is a duty.

It is not permissible to seek divorce or to seek the divorce of the second wife without a legitimate religious excuse.

Strengthen your connection with Allah by observing prayers and righteous deeds, fulfill your duties towards your husband, his mother, and your co-wife, cast aside doubts and suspicions, and advise your husband with wisdom and good counsel.
