Is it permissible to uncover coarse, curly hair to a male doctor for the purpose of straightening it?
It is established by the texts of Islamic law that women must conceal themselves from men, based on the Almighty's saying: (And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests). Thus, a woman must cover herself from non-mahram men. If a woman needs to treat her hair wrinkles, it should be done by a female doctor, because straightening curly hair is a form of adornment and not a necessity that permits uncovering the head to non-mahram men. She must be patient and content with Allah Almighty's creation if she cannot find a female doctor.
