Must a divorced working woman spend from her own money on her family and her father when she lives in her father's house? And how can she face her father's angry reaction to her reducing the amount given to him without committing a sin and while gaining his رضا (رضا)?
Being dutiful to one's parents is one of the greatest acts of devotion. The pleasure of Allah lies in the pleasure of the father, and His displeasure lies in his displeasure. The father is the middle gate of Paradise. You must go to great lengths in showing kindness and benevolence to your father and pleasing him to attain the pleasure of your Lord. If your father is in need of money for sustenance or essential matters, and the money exceeds your needs, then you must give him what is sufficient to meet his needs. However, if what he requests does not exceed your needs, or if he is not in need of it, or if he intends to give it to others, then you are not obligated to give it to him. We pray that your father fears Allah concerning you and treats you well. It is not permissible for him to differentiate between you and your son, nor to prevent you from going out to work if you are in need of spending on yourself and your son.
