It is obligatory for a woman whose husband has passed away to observe the rules of the ' (waiting period) by remaining in her home for four months and ten days if she is not pregnant. If she is pregnant, her 'iddah ends upon delivery. She must avoid adornment. It is permissible for her to leave her home for a need, provided she does not spend the night outside of it. It is also permissible for her to speak with workers if there is a need, provided she adheres to Islamic manners.
