What is the explanation of the hadith and what is meant by it, and is it authentic?

The noble Prophetic Hadith that begins with "Indeed, the most beloved of you to me are those with the best character" is an authentic hadith due to its numerous chains of transmission and supporting evidences. The hadith has been narrated in several versions, some of which describe the most beloved people to the Prophet, peace be upon him, as "those whose shoulders are soft (humble), who are friendly and befriended." Others describe the most hated people to him as "those who spread slander, cause separation between loved ones, and seek hardship for the innocent." And some add "the talkative, the boastful, and the eloquent ones who speak pretentiously."

Meaning of the Hadith: The most beloved people to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and those closest to him in status, are those with good character and gentle demeanor, who are friendly towards people and whom people befriend, so their company is loved. The most hated people to him are the slanderers who corrupt relations among people, sow enmity between those who love each other, and strive to inflict hardship and harm upon the innocent. Also dispraised are the talkative (those who speak excessively and affectedly), the boastful (those who speak expansively without need), and the eloquent ones who speak pretentiously (those who speak with artificial eloquence).

The hadith aims to encourage noble character, gentleness, and harmony, and to prohibit slander and corruption among people, especially towards the pious and peaceful.
