What are the virtues of completing the Quran, and are they for reading or for the completion?

Reciting the Qur’an is a great act of worship through which a Muslim earns immense rewards. For every letter one recites, there is a good deed, multiplied tenfold. On the Day of Judgment, the Qur’an will intercede for its companions. It will be said to its reciter: "Recite, ascend, and chant as you used to chant in the worldly life, for your status is at the last verse you recite." The reward for reciting the Qur’an is based on recitation, and even more so on completing its recitation. The more one reads and the more perfectly one recites, the greater the reward. The righteous predecessors were keen on completing the recitation of the Qur’an. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas to recite the Qur’an every seven days and not to exceed that. The preferred view is for a person to recite as much of the Qur’an as they can consistently maintain.
