How can the Hadith, "The Children of Israel used to bathe naked..." narrated in Al-Bukhari, be interpreted, and what is its meaning?

Accepting the Prophet's ﷺ narration does not depend on understanding it; rather, it must first be believed, and then one should inquire from the people of knowledge. The narration about the Children of Israel exposing themselves and Moses' struggle with the stone is authentic and presents no difficulty. Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Battal were of the opinion that the Children of Israel's exposure was due to their disobedience to their prophet. Ibn Hajar believed that this might have been permissible in their law before its abrogation by Islam.

Moses' incident with the stone occurred to clear him from the Children of Israel's accusation of him having al-Adrah (enlarged testicles). The stone seized his garment while he was bathing, so Moses chased it, striking it until his body became visible to the Children of Israel, and they confirmed his innocence. This was a permissible glance due to necessity, like medical treatment. Some scholars were of the view that they did not see his awrah (private parts), but rather he had a loincloth that revealed what was beneath it when wet.
