Is someone's statement, "I am divorced by three," intending to quit a certain program, considered mockery of religion, and am I sinful for relaying this statement?

It is not mockery for a person to say, when intending to abandon something: "I have divorced it thrice," and there is no harm in relaying this statement. This is evidenced by what Abu Nu'aym and Ibn Asakir narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in his description of Dirar ibn Hamzah Al-Kinani, where he said: "Then he says to the world: To me you have boasted, to me you have looked longingly, far be it, far be it! Deceive someone else, I have severed you thrice, for your life is short, your assembly is contemptible, and your danger is insignificant."
