Is a girl entitled to choose a specific husband over other suitable suitors?
The Sharia has guided women and their guardians to seek out a competent suitor. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If someone whose religion and character you approve of comes to you seeking marriage, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." If more than one suitor proposes to her, she has the right to choose whomever she wishes. She should choose someone who possesses qualities that will ensure the continuation of the marital relationship in the best possible state, because the stability of married life is a fundamental objective of Islam. Allah Almighty says: "And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought."
