What is the ruling on insulting and reviling illness due to its abundance?

The onset of illness may be a punishment that necessitates repentance, or a trial and test that requires patience. Whoever is patient and content will receive contentment and reward from Allah, and whoever is discontent will receive Allah's wrath and painful torment. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If Allah loves a people, He afflicts them. Whoever is patient, he will have patience, and whoever is distressed, he will have distress." In another narration: "Indeed, the greatness of the reward is commensurate with the greatness of the affliction. And indeed, if Allah loves a people, He afflicts them. Whoever is content, he will have contentment, and whoever is discontent, he will have discontent." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade cursing fever, explaining that it removes the sins of the children of Adam. Therefore, one must be patient and not despair when illness strikes, for your patience and contentment will bring about reward and hasten healing, by the permission of Allah.
