What is the ruling on "gel extensions" for adornment, and does it conflict with the validity of worship?

The Wise Lawgiver (Allah) commanded us to tend to our nails and trim them, as this is among the characteristics of the fitra (natural disposition), as stated in the noble Hadith (definition). Lengthening the nails, or applying artificial nails, or a substance to lengthen them, contradicts this command and involves imitation of animals. Furthermore, applying something to the nail that prevents water from reaching it invalidates ritual purity (taharah (definition)). Therefore, this should be avoided.
