Is it permissible for a woman to undergo cosmetic surgery if her body has changed significantly during pregnancy and she has become ashamed for her husband to see her?

Cosmetic surgery is a surgical procedure performed to improve the appearance of a visible part of the body.

If the surgery is necessary to remove a congenital defect or a defect resulting from an illness or accident, or to alleviate physical or psychological harm, then it is Islamically permissible and is not considered altering Allah's creation.

However, surgeries performed for the sake of beauty and altering Allah's creation without necessity, such as tattooing, plucking eyebrows, widening gaps between teeth for beauty, changing breast size, or tightening wrinkles, are forbidden, and their doer is cursed, because they fall under altering Allah's creation and sometimes involve deception and fraud.

Al-Nawawi indicated that what is forbidden is that which is done for the sake of beauty. However, if a woman needs it for treatment or a defect, there is no harm.

If the disfigurement is accidental and causes extreme embarrassment or the husband's aversion, and the surgery is to remove this disfigurement, not to seek more beauty, then there is no harm in performing it.
