Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to travel without a mahram if the journey is safe, considering current circumstances which differ from those of the past?

Most scholars do not permit a woman to travel without a mahram unless there is a necessity, due to the established Prophetic prohibition against her traveling for a day and a night's journey except with a mahram. This is the preponderant opinion. Some scholars, however, permitted her travel with a trustworthy company. Sheikh Ibn Jibreen is of the view that the prohibited travel is that which takes a day and a night's journey or more, encompassing long distances that might expose her to danger. As for short, safe travel with a trustworthy company, there is no harm in it. A woman should not seek a dispensation except when there is a need, and in such a case, there is no harm in adopting the easier of the opinions of the respected scholars.
