Why did Allah mislead His servants by not identifying the crucified one, and why is the Qur’an vague in describing the story of the crucifixion?

Allah did not mislead anyone regarding the truth of the crucifixion before the advent of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He did not obligate the followers of Christ to believe in his non-crucifixion, and He, the Exalted, excused those for whom the matter was ambiguous.

After the advent of Prophet Muhammad and the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, the matter became clear with His, the Almighty’s, saying: (And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [rather] it was made to appear to them so) (4:157). This necessitated the repudiation of the news of the crucifixion.

The issue of the crucifixion of Christ was not a test before the advent of Prophet Muhammad. However, after his advent, his message became a trial for the followers of Christ in all its details. So, whoever believes in him and follows the Qur’an and Sunnah has attained salvation.
