What is the meaning of the Prophet's prohibition against “al-ikhtisar” in prayer?

The prohibition of ikhtisar in prayer, mentioned in the Hadith, has been interpreted in several ways. The correct interpretation, according to the verifiers and the majority of linguists and Hadith scholars, is that al-mukhtasir is one who prays with his hand on his waist. Other interpretations have been given, such as leaning on a staff, abbreviating a Surah, or not completing the pillars of prayer. It was prohibited because it was said to be the act of the Jews, or the act of Satan, or the act of the arrogant.
