Is it permissible to fast two consecutive months?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Fasting is a virtuous act, and whoever is able to do a lot of it will be rewarded. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would sometimes fast consecutively and sometimes break his fast. Fasting for two consecutive months, or less, or more, is permissible without any dislike, as long as it does not include days forbidden for fasting. The best is to fast one day and break fast one day, as David, peace be upon him, used to do. Consecutive fasting is obligatory in certain expiations, such as the expiation for ẓihār, accidental killing, and sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan for one who is unable to free a slave.
