Must the two months of expiation for deliberately breaking the fast on a day in Ramadan be consecutive, or may they be separated?

The expiation for intentionally breaking the fast by engaging in sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan is the freeing of a slave. If one cannot find a slave, then it is fasting for two consecutive months. If one is unable to do that, then it is feeding sixty poor people. It is not permissible to separate the fasting of the two consecutive months. The expiation is obligatory only for breaking the fast by sexual intercourse, and not for other fast-breaking acts, according to the preponderant opinion.
