What is the ruling on one who had intercourse with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan, then fasted one day and fed sixty poor people instead of fasting two consecutive months due to hardship at work? Is it a condition for the sixty days to be consecutive, or for them to start from the beginning of the month?

If you fed people due to your inability to fast, then there is nothing upon you, and your expiation is sufficient. However, if you fed people while you were able to fast, then it is not sufficient for you; rather, you must fast. It is permissible to begin fasting from the beginning of the month or during it.

If you start from the beginning of a month, and fast for two months by sighting the crescents, that will suffice you, whether they are full or deficient, due to the Almighty's saying: (fasting for two consecutive months). If you start during a month and fast for sixty days, that will suffice you.

And if you fast one month by the crescent and another month by counting, for example, if you fast fifteen days from Muharram, all of Safar, and fifteen days from Rabi', then it will suffice you. And Allah knows best.
