What is the Sharia ruling on a husband who does not adhere to the conditions of marriage and continues to chew qat despite its religious, social, and psychological harms? And is qat forbidden (haram)?

As for khat, it is forbidden. The husband's gathering to watch pornographic films and neglecting his obligatory duties is evidence of the bad consequences of consuming it. The husband must repent from all of this and emphasize avoiding the consumption of khat, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The conditions most worthy of fulfillment are those by which you make intimate relations lawful."

This husband is abusive in his marital relations and negligent in his wife's rights, violating Allah's command: "And live with them in kindness."

We advise the wife to be patient and supplicate for him. If he persists in his state and she is harmed, she has the right to seek divorce, and neither her family nor his family can prevent her, for obedience to parents is not obligatory in matters that harm the woman, and their approval of him consuming khat is a reprehensible act.

If the husband has divorced, then made zihar (a pre-Islamic form of divorce by saying to one's wife, "You are to me like my mother's back"), and then reconciled with his wife, it is not permissible for him to have intercourse with her before performing the expiation for zihar. If he has intercourse with her knowing its prohibition, he is sinful and must repent. The same applies to the wife if she allows him, knowing its prohibition.
