When we arrive late for prayer, how do we complete it?
The jurists differed on how a latecomer (masbuq) should make up (qaḍāʾ) a missed prayer. The majority of scholars hold that whatever the latecomer catches up with the imam is the beginning of his prayer, based on the hadith: "Whatever you catch up with, pray; and whatever you miss, complete." Some scholars, however, are of the view that whatever he catches up with the imam is the end of his prayer, and he makes up what he missed, citing the narration: "And make up what you missed."
