Must I perform Hajj if the profit from my trade is insufficient for me and my family without taking from the principal, which would affect the sufficiency of my children's expenses?
Hajj is only obligatory for those who are able to perform it, based on the Almighty’s saying: (And [due] to Allah from the people is Hajj to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way). Financial capability means having sufficient provisions for the pilgrim and their family until their return, and that they retain, after their return, what suffices them and their dependents from wages, salary, or trade. They are not obligated to perform Hajj using the capital of their business if its reduction would affect their profits in such a way that it would not suffice them. If the money is necessary to cover living expenses and children's needs, then Hajj is not obligatory due to a lack of legitimate capability.
