Is it obligatory to dispose of earthenware pots upon which drops of alcohol have fallen, or is washing them sufficient, and how so?

Scholars differed concerning the impurity of wine, with the majority holding it to be impure. As for a vessel that has been affected by impurity, it is washed with water until the impurity is removed, and thereby becomes pure, and it is permissible to use it. This is supported by the fact that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the washing of pots in which the meat of domestic donkeys had been cooked, and permitted the washing of the vessels of the People of the Book which they use for wine and pork, if a Muslim finds no other.
