What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a husband's insistence that his wife work in usurious banks, while the wife refuses out of fear of falling into the forbidden (haram)?
"Financial support for the wife and children is solely incumbent upon the husband. It is permissible for the wife to work to help her husband, provided that the work is permissible, with his consent, that she adheres to the Islamic , does not mix with non- men, and that the work does not lead to neglecting the children. It is not permissible for a woman to work in an interest-based bank, and there is no obedience to the created in disobedience to the Creator. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who consumes Riba, the one who pays it, the one who writes it down, and its two witnesses. Working in interest-based banks is considered cooperation in sin and aggression, and it contradicts the principle of enjoining good and forbidding evil."
