Is what Dr. Adnan Ibrahim mentioned true: that Mu'awiyah used to drink alcohol, permit usury, and wear gold and silk?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Mu'awiya (may Allah be pleased with him) is among the great Companions and scribes of revelation. It has not been authentically reported from him that he drank alcohol, or considered usury permissible, or wore gold and silk. There is nothing in Sahih Muslim, nor in the Musnad, nor in authentic narrations that indicates otherwise. Rather, he narrated Hadith concerning the punishment for one who drinks alcohol and the prohibition of silk and gold, among them the Hadith: "If he drinks, then flog him..." and the Hadith prohibiting nine things, among them singing, gold, and silk. Sheikh Deddew has refuted what Adnan mentioned.
