Is it permissible for a Muslim, when asked about his country, to answer that he is from Yemen or the Arabian Peninsula, due to his dislike of his country’s customs and the hypocrisy of its people, and is this considered disavowal of one’s origin?

It is permissible for a person to claim affiliation with a country for the purpose of dissimulation (tawriyah) to remove hardship or avert harm, as long as this does not result in harm to himself or others, or invalidate a right or establish falsehood. Dissimulation (ma'areedh) is permissible; it is a way out of lying, as it refers to speech that aligns with the literal wording but differs in intended meaning. Lying, however, is forbidden except in cases of necessity that cannot be averted otherwise.
