Is it permissible to deny one's original nationality—without officially changing it—due to the bad reputation of the country of origin and to avoid the resulting psychological and social problems, while desiring to please Allah and steer clear of falsehood?

Lying is forbidden except in specific cases. Euphemism (tawriyah) can be used instead of outright lying if stating one's nationality causes harm. This means saying something that can bear more than one meaning, where the speaker intends one meaning and the questioner understands another. One should not exaggerate concern over this matter, nor commit forbidden acts like cutting hair, knowing that a person is not held accountable for the sins of another, and the rule of Islamic law is: "{And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.}"
